Once upon a sketch....

Another layout I created at this weekends scrap retreat was for the 15th August Once Upon a Sketch - with at least 2 sentences of lyrics for your journaling - you can see the sketch HERE

And this is what I came up with....

Purple Pumpkin sketch

I've had a busy scrapping weekend....with a bunch of lovely ladies at our annual scrap retreat at a tiny little country village called Neville...it was a really great weekend - lots of laughs & lots of scrapping amongst great company.  I managed to get 9 layouts + a mini canvas done.....along with wayyyyy too much eating & drinking :-)

I had printed out a few challenge sketches to take along, and one of them was this months Purple Pumpkin sketch....that you can see HERE  which was created by the gorgeous, talented Melinda Thompson

And here is my take on it.....

I have used a couple of Purple Pumpkin buttons...... that I received in a RAK from Melinda Thompson a few months ago.  Thanks Min!!!  And yes, there is a typo in my journaling on the dymo tape - will have to see if I can get it off & fix it without damaging the LO.  Any suggestions?

I'll be back over the next few days to add the rest of my layouts that I created at the retreat.

I think these are becoming a bit addictive...LOL
Love this weeks combo over at Colour Combo's Galore , so managed to squeeze it in today, in between umpteen loads of washing & housework :-)

The designers challenge inspired by the cane basket & straw hats,  was to use mesh or other woven fabric.
I've used a few Prima flowers made from hessian ....plus a handmade Charms Creations lollipop flower.
There's also a Lovelybug bits n bobs button.....love these buttons! <3

CCG # 204

I was really inspired by the latest  Colour Combo's Galore inspiration board # 204.....I just LOVE the colours in this!  and the pic is pretty inspiring too with that beachy feel & the grid through the images!  So I really wanted to give this one a go.  I've never completed a CCG before....so this is my first :)

I went for something that I've done previously on a few layouts for my grid design...just love this effect!
I really enjoyed creating this layout....it all came together so perfectly, so I'm quite chuffed with it :)
I've used some roughly cut hessian, cotton lace, Prima vines, punched butterflies, a few splats of glimmermist, handmade flowers & chipboard button and some handcut stamped leaves.
Pic was taken on our cruise last year at the Isle of Pines.......... Paradise - just as the title says!

Burning the candle at both ends!

But I love the outcome :)
Last night I felt the urge to scrap, so decided I'd create a layout for the Handmade by Suzanne August sketch challenge.  I never started until about 10....and finished at about 1am!  I haven't been up that late in a really long time....so this morning I was suffering for it.  LOL

and here is my take on it....

Pic is of the amazing Moreton Bay fig trees on Norfolk Island.  I'm as pleased as punch with my new Crafters Workshop template....just wish I'd used it much earlier!  (I think I've had it for a month or 2)
I've also used some "A Lil Somethin'" chipboard butterflies & bottletop button....plus another Lovelybug bits n bobs button (I love these buttons!!! and have just about run out of them.....luckily I have ordered some more)

SB Top 50 colour challenge....

Last weekend I decided to have a go at Sue's colour challenge over at Scrapbooking Top 50.
I went with the blue & yellow combo (other choice was pink & green)...you also had to use lighter tones of your chosen colour combo....plus the use of a punch ....and some paint/mist/ink.

Silly me completed the LO and then realised I forgot the paint/mist/ink part!!!  LOL
So I ended up going with some white paint mixed with some texture paste & used a stencil. 
Being an afterthought....hmmmm I'm not sure.....but I guess it came out ok

August Kraft it Up....

Gosh, I don't remember the last time I participated in a KIU challenge....it's been wayyyy too long!
So today....I got to it & completed this months challenge, which was a sketch challenge that you can view HERE.

This is what I came up with.....

Pics are from our recent road trip...of the Kinchega wool shed.
Used a Lil Somethin bottletop & paper flower...and also a LovelyBug Bit's n Bobs button.

2560km Road Trip

Back in May, DH & I embarked on a road trip out to Broken Hill ...and then returned home via Mildura in Vic, giving us a total of 8 days away.  We covered 3 states - NSW, VIC & SA (perhaps a bit of cheating here...lol, from Broken Hill we drove the 50 or so km's out to the SA border...just so I could say I've been to SA...LOL), we did 29+ hours driving time, used 243 litres of petrol, took 813 photos and spent an unknown amount of $$$$$ (who's counting when you're having fun??). 

So, I thought I'd best get a move on & add some pics/details from the trip before the ol' Alzheimer's really sets in & I forget stuff :-/

We headed off at about 6am on 14th May for the 923km haul to Broken Hill.  Stopping at Nyngan, Cobar, Wilcannia & a truck stop that was out in the middle of nowhere (with nothing else there but the truck stop), for lunch & rest breaks.

^ There was literally hundreds of kilometres like this....just straight & flat.

We arrived in Broken Hill about 5.30 pm....and the next day got straight to doing the touristy thing...

And this was the hotel where we stayed - The Royal Exchange....very art deco! 

After strolling around the CBD & having breakfast on our first morning....we headed out to the Royal Flying Doctors.  What an amazing place...and such a great service that they provide - Loved visiting here :)

We then headed back into town for some more sight seeing....

We then went out to the living desert to have some lunch, walk around the desert & view the amazing sculptures.....

^ I waited & waited for the sun to be lined up through the hole of the sculpture for this shot...this is probably the best of about 20 that I took.

The next day....lots to do again, so first on our list was the School of the Air.  What a fascinating place.  Don't think I'd want to be a teacher there though....by gee you need to have a lot of patience - all the waiting for the kids to reply on the radio all the time., would drive me nuts!  lol

Then we went out to Silverton for the afternoon....so much to see & do here also!

On our 3rd morning we drove out to the SA border....so that I can now say I've been to SA.  lol

And ...... I have proof :)

We visited the Pro Hart gallery...wow , what a talented man he was.  I took a heap more photos inside this gallery, but will just share my fav....

Day 4 and we're off to Menindee Lakes.....

^ and stopped off here on the way, as we knew this was a spot that Pro Hart visited regularly to produce many of his pieces of artwork...

^ And the first thing we seen were these guys....I'm not sure who was startled the most...them or us!  LOL

The beautiful Menindee Lakes....this place was just out of this world.  So serene & peaceful.
I probably took 100 or so photos here....and I could have easily taken more.  I would have been happy to just take photos all day - it is such a beautiful spot.

We were so lucky to be there at a time when the lakes were full....due to the recent floods of QLD & far north NSW on the Darling River.  We'll definitely have to add Menindee Lakes back on the evergrowing list of places to see.

While out in the Menindee area, we also visited Kinchega National Park & the Kinchega homestead & woolshed.  What an amazing place this was....easily spent 3 or 4 hours wandering & checking things out.

We also went to see the mighty Darling river while in the township of Menindee....

and then drove on to the Burke & Wills campsite, 30 or so km's out of Menindee.....

Due to the recent floods along the Darling river...a lot of places were inaccessable.  We started walking along this track, but it got to the point where it was so bad that we couldn't continue....unless we wanted to end up with mud up to our knees.......

^ Although the ground looks dry & cracked here....it was very wet & soggy under the top layer that looked dry.

And now our time in Broken Hill is up...time to head to Mildura down in Victoria.....

with a few rest stops along the way.....

Finally we arrived at Wenthworth....a little township about 25km north of Mildura...where the Murray & Darling Rivers meet.....

^The 2 rivers meeting place.  You can really see the difference in the water between the 2 rivers as the Darling River has lots of clay in it.

While in Wentworth we visited the Old Wentworth Gaol....

What a tough life it would have been serving time here!

 

Just outside of Wentworth are these amazing sand dunes - called Perry sandhills.....

Finally, we're in Mildura....

Sadly, our time in Mildura is at an end....and it's time to hit the road for the 8 hour drive home...

We had planned to stop off at Hay for a lunch break & to visit "Shear Outback" - Australia's shearing hall of fame which is just outside of Hay...

And here we are almost home......

So there it is....our first road trip in many many years....hopefully it will be the first of many :)
