20 Favourites for 2014

Just thought I'd jump on the bandwagon of sharing some of my favourite layouts created for 2014, as I usually do each year.  It has certainly been a fairly hectic year! 

 

 

Here are a few statistics on numbers of layouts I've created for the year....

(this is only 6 months worth as position only started in July 2014)

At first I was a little shocked at just how much I have done this year, considering I am a fairly slow scrapper! But then when I really think about it, that's only 2.something layouts per week?! 
Hmmmm, it sure felt like I did way more than that ...knowing me, I've probably forgot to add some of what I've done.  Either that or it just felt like I spent a heap of time in my scrap room! LOL

I was planning on only choosing 14 (seeings it's 2014), but it was really really hard to choose only 14 from 121 layouts.....so instead, you get to see 20! LOL

Having looked back over the pages for the year, I can't help but notice that I tend to scrap more holiday/landscape type photos than ones of people....hmmmmm, not sure exactly what this means!

Either:  (a.)  I don't have as many "people" shots as I do holiday/scenery ones....or (b.) I just prefer to scap these style of photos?!?

 

I think it may just be a bit of both :)

 

So, this brings my last post for 2014 to a close.

Creative Team Article on "ways with washi" for Scrapbooking Memories Vol. 17 No. 4

Hi All,

Just thought I'd try and catch up on some of the details from my CT articles for SBM while things are bit quiet here on my blog :)

 

Although my time as creative team member is officially over (insert sad face), I still have a few articles to share, and I'll be adding them to my blog over the coming weeks.  I'd like to send a big congratulations out to Kim Price & Katie Howard, who are the 2 new CT members for 2015!

For my article in Vol. 17 No. 4 I decided to do something on Washi tape

& just some of its many uses!

 

My layouts demonstrate just a few of the techniques from the article on using washi tape.

The article also included other ideas, such as covering embellishments, creating flags, washi die-cuts, creating hinged tabs for extra space/layers on your page...and also using washi as journaling strips.

 

I am sure there are many other ways of using this amazing verstatile products.

 

So here are the layouts I created for this article.....

 

 

"Our Little Ray of Sunshine"

 

So, in case you can't tell....I've used a heap of different washi tapes to create my background.

No patterned paper was used in the creation of this layout....lol (this is probably a first for me!)

I gathered all the washi tapes from my stash & picked out the ones that would work best, then just tore them into different lenghts & layered them across the page in a verticle fashion. 

 

I love the effect of this...especially with all the bright colours & a tiny smidgen of black added!

I have also added some random stamping in black on top of the washi strips....which helps to add a little more interest plus an extra dimension.  I used an archival ink so that it wouldn't smudge.

 

 

 

 

 

 Next layout......

 

"Celebrate"

For this layout I've used washi in a few different ways.

A cute little banner....and also created some really easy feathers,

that was also part of a step x step in the article.

 

 

Here's a bit of a close up of the feathers....

 

These are the steps for creating a washi feather.....

 

1.       Cut 2 pieces of Washi tape to the length you would like for your feather, then cut 1 piece of string so that it is slightly longer.  The string will form the quill of the feather.

2.       Lay one piece of Washi over the string so that the string is roughly in the centre, with a little bit of string left hanging out at the bottom.  Press it down firmly once it is in the correct position.

3.       Turn it over, and press the 2^nd Washi strip to the opposite side so that both sticky sides are together, taking care to line the edges up evenly.

4.       Cut the top and bottom of your strip to shape so that it resembles the shape of a feather.  Now cut slits diagonally down each side at close intervals to create the “feathers”.  Ruffle them up for a more realistic look

 

 

For the banner....simply double a strip of washi so that it "hangs"over a length of twine ...repeat until you have the required amount of banners, altering the length of each, then cut a V shape out from the bottom of each piece.....and tadahhhh you have yourself a cute little colourful banner :)

I have loved the variety of layouts I have managed to create from this fun collection.

 

"Best Mates"

I love the darker background paper here....I think it has a bit of a formal feel to it, so thought it would be great used as the backdrop with these pics of my 2 boys all dressed up for a Deb Ball my DS was in.  And the Yellow papers also went well with the yellow canola in the background of the photos.

Kaisercraft DT - POP!

Hello everyone, and a good Sunday morning to you all :)

 

Today I am back to share the 3rd Kaisercraft release for December....and it is a bright, colourful & cheery one called POP!  It would be perfect for birthday layouts, cards, invitations & the like.

 

But, me being me....I always like to do something outside of what a collection is themed for!

I'm such a rebel...LOL!

 

 

"The Dingle Coast"

I decided to do a travel page, from our holiday last year on the Dingle Coast in Ireland.

I picked out the blues & greens from the POP! collection to go with the gorgeous blues & greens in the photos.  If you've ever wondered....yep, Ireland REALLY is THAT green!

 

 

Of course, there are always the perfect coloured paper blooms to go with all of Kaisercraft's collections, as you can see here in my cluster.  I've also added some punched & diecut leaves, butterflies & stamped windmills that come in the POP! - quotes clear stamp set, plus a few other bits from my stash.

 

 

More stamped windmills topped off with a KC rhinestone....and some stickers from the Sticker sheet.

 

 

I have used a couple of the Captured Moments 6x4 cards from the Sprinkles pack....which is designed to go with the POP! collection, layered in behind my photo.  I know I've said this before....but these really do make layering on your page so, so quick & easy.  I'm not a PL scrapper, so this is the perfect way for me to use these fab little gems :)

"Happy Birthday Card"

Again, I've used one of the CM 6x4 cards as the main piece on the card, which is on top of the yellow Party Time paper...then I've cut a few pieces from the Sugar paper & rolled them up to create the cute little candles....tieing them together with a piece of orange ribbon from my stash. 

 

 

I stamped the Happy Birthday using the POP! quotes stamp set and then cut it out & mounted it up on some small foam dots.

"There's much to celebrate card"

Again, I've covered my card with a piece of PP - Polka, and then used one of the CM 6x4 cards on top.  The POP! collection comes with 2 stamp sets...Quotes & another called Treats.  I have stamped the balloons using the cute little balloon stamps from the Treats set in a variety of colours, popped them up on some foam tape to form a nice bunch & then added some twine for the balloon strings :) 

 

"There's much to celebrate" is another of the stamps from the Quotes stamp set.

As I said previously....there's so many stamps in these collections, making them perfect for B'day layouts, cards or invitations.

Kaisercraft DT - Cherry Blossom

Good morning all...and happy Friday :)

 

Today I'm back to share my DT work for Kaisercraft using the gorgeously beautiful Cherry Blossom collection....this one is really really pretty!  Think cherry blossoms, Japanese themed....but of course you could create any themed layout with it.

 

First up I have a layout....and I've gone for a bit of a monochromatic theme, picking out all the pink coloured papers & embellishments from the Collectables pack, sticker sheet & paper pad.

 

There are other colours in this collection....soft teal/mint greens & soft mango/oranges along with a variety of shades of pink.  As I said, it is really really pretty <3

 

 

 

"Hello Beautiful"

Here's one of those chevron papers again...so as you can tell, they are my fav!  As I tend to use my favourite papers as my backgrounds....this one is called "Fragrance" 

 

 

The title I cut from the Sunrise paper and have mounted it up on some foam tape.

 

 

I love those gorgeous little lanterns from the Collectables pack....and I've also included some of the beautiful cherry blossoms, that are also in the Collectables pack.

How gorgeous is the floral cherry blossom paper that I've cut into a banner shape?  So so pretty <3

"Something to remember" Gift Box

 

 

I've prettied up a paper maché box with a variety of papers, blooms, Collectables pieces....and also some KC lace & some muslin.

 

I've added a bit of stencil work on the top with modelling paste, before adding the embellishments.

It is a cute little box & will be perfect for adding a small gift for someone :)
