Fancy Pants "True Friend" for All About Scrapbooks

I have my first layout for All About Scrapbooks to share for November....using the fun & gorgeous "True Friend" range from Fancy Pants.  This collection has beautiful bright colours & patterns...and a heap of coordinating embellies, stickers etc.

Creative Team Article on Colour for Scrapbooking Memories - Vol. 17 No. 2

A big hello to everyone again.

Yep, I'm back, yet again....still trying to play catch up!

 

I am a wee bit behind on sharing my pages created for my Scrapbooking Memories CT articles....but I guess I'll eventually get there sooner or later!

 

  

For this article in Vol. 17 No. 2, which was an issue where the theme was colour....I thought this was a great opportunity to share how I go about choosing what colours to use for my layouts.

I have had people ask me this question regularly...so again, perfect opportunity to share with everyone.

 

Basically, I go for colours in my photos when choosing what papers & embellishments to use.

But when I have to work with a particular paper collection for DT work, the process is reversed....I then choose a photo that will compliment the colours in the collection I'm working with.

 

 

Anyways....here is my first layout created for the article.

 

"The colour Run"

The dominant colour in the 4 photos I've used, is orange....and there is also a bit of blue & green.

I don't always go for every single colour that's in the photos I'm using, but generally try to use at least 1 or 2.  So in the papers & embellishments I've used, you will see some Orange, blue & green.  The colour of the papers/embellishments doesn't have to be the exact shade of the colour in the photo....for me, any shade of that colour will work just fine.

 

 

 

 Placement of the colours from the photos can have a dramatic effect as well.  Because there is so much orange in the photos, when I placed the orange piece of PP directly under the photos, it was just way too much orange...and the photos seemed to blend in, and get lost in amongst so much orange.  So to add another colour or 2 between the photos & the orange piece of paper makes a significant difference and helps the photos stand out more on the page.

 

I generally don't stick anything down until I'm happy with the look...so I fiddle around with the placement of papers, embellies etc....and this applies not only for the placement of embellies & papers...but also for the arrangement of the colours as well.

 

Colouring embellishments, such as chipboard, is another great way of getting the colours from your photos onto your page. 

 

 

 

 

Although there are no set rules regarding colour, and most colours do go together.....if say, I was creating with papers and embellishments that were mostly shades of green....and I had my heart set on scrapping with a photo of Aunt Molly wearing her beautiful purple dress? For me, this combination just wouldn't work....so in this case, I would convert my photo to black and white....which I have demonstrated in the layout below.

 

Black & white photos will go with any colour combinations....so this is a handy little tool to be able to convert photos to black & white when they just won't go with the colours of your papers etc.

"Always behind the camera"

So here I have tried to demonstrate the idea of converting photos to black & white, when the colours of the photos just don't go with the colours of the paper.  Although I'm not wearing the purple dress, as I mentioned regarding Aunt Molly (LOL!!!), but imagine if my shirt was purple...or even red....for me this would just totally clash & take away from the colour palette of the papers.

 

 

If you're working with a complete paper collection, the manufacturer has done all the colour work for you....as they generally co-ordinate everything just perfectly.  But when you're working with bits and pieces from different collections, this is where a bit more thought needs to be applied in choosing what papers & colours to use :)

 

I hope that all makes sense!

And as I said previously....there are no rules, but this is what works for me, and is the

process that I use when creating my pages :)

Last WRMK Indian Summer for All About Scrapbooks / Scrap 365 sketch

I am back again so soon with one last layout for the month as part of my DT work for

All About Scrapbooks...usign the fantastic Indian Summer collection by WRMK.

 

I have thoroughly enjoyed creating with this one this month.  The colours are what drew me to this collection, and when you love something so much, it really makes it such a joy to work with & my pages just fell together so easily - gotta love that! 

I just wish I had more time to create some more with it...perhaps "IF" I get a bit of time over the coming weeks, I'll try to use more of it up & then share :)

 

"The Great Australian Wind Catcher"

 

 

 I have used mostly plain papers for this layout....with the main layered area under the photo being all cards & frames from the albums made easy journal card pack. It is amazing how quick a page comes together when using pieces such as these...it's just a matter of choosing a few cards, and shuffling them around until you are happy with the layout...and presto - you're done!

 

I have journaled around the outer edge of the page about this great Aussie icon :)

So that's it from me for another month ...it has been a super busy one!

With time away from my scrap desk due to family events & time away....I feel like I'm constantly playing catch up!!  Hoping things will settle down a bit with the lead up to Christmas - gosh, who am I kidding?!?  I'm sure it's just gonna get worse...LOL!

Kaisercraft DT - Rustic Harmony

Hello again everyone....gosh, what a busy week it's been!!!

 

I am back with a few projects using another new Kaisecraft collection....

Rustic Harmony.

 

This collection is nothing short of beautiful...it is soft and pretty, yet rustic at the same time.  Lots of woodgrained & antiquey type papers, that would suit any style of layout.  As you can see below, I have used a photo from Dublin on our trip last year, and if you remember back on my Kaisercraft Finalist DT application post,  I got to play with this gorgeous collection back then too, and again,

I created a travel page from Ireland.

"Ha' Penny Bridge"

 

I've used the Kaisercraft Quarters template on my background with some modelling paste, and also some stamping with KC script stamp....and I've then layered up different papers & a heap of Collectables pieces, plus some stickers in there as well.

 

 

And of course...some Paper Blooms - I absolutely love my paper blooms <3 and some diecut leaves to help finish off the cluster.

 

 

I've added some gesso, swiped across the Paper Blooms & leaves to help tie in with the

feel of these rustic papers.

 

 

 

 

 

This collection comes with alpha stickers on the sticker sheet, so I've used them in my title, as well as some KC white alpha stickers that I've inked a soft pink.  I love the size of these alpha stickers...as they are not too big, they are just the perfect size :)

"Sweet Love"

Using a Kaisercraft freestanding heart

 

 

I've used 2 layers of paper, with the top layer cut slightly smaller than the bottom, so that it created a bit of a border around the outside of the heart.  I've also distressed & inked the edges of the inner heart to help give it a bit more definition.

 

 

I created a cluster made up of 3 different coloured paper blooms, some stickers & diecuts...plus a really OLD KC wooden flourish that I found buried in my stash...lol!  Also added some muslin & some die-cut leaves.

 

 

I've added a bit of texture to the wooden flourish & then coloured it with glimmermist.

 

 

And here is a few of the Collectables pieces....layered butterflies & some cute little banners.
