Hi everyone
Just popping in to share the details of my 2nd article as Creative Team member for
Scrapbooking Memories - Vol. 16 - No. 8
BTW - Look at that fabulous cover layout by Lizzy Hill!!!
My article is titled "Non Media Based Backgrounds with Templates" and gives 2 examples of creating backgrounds using templates that have no mixed media products on them.
Again, this was another rushed one :-/
I had approximately 10 days after getting home from our trip to Ireland to get it all in
by the deadline...and from being sick for a bit when I got back,
to say I was a little stressed is an understatement! lol
So my first page is
"Well Loved"
For this background I have used a hexagon template and traced various sized hexagons onto my background lightly in pencil..then I pierced the holes around each hexagon, rubbed out the pencil lines, and finally added some hand stitching in a variety of coloured threads to tie in
with the colours of the papers & photo. I also mixed up the stitching a bit so that it all didn't look the same.
Any shaped template could be used for this...or even some straight, wiggly or perhaps chevron lines would look fantastic too!
Papers used are Simple Stories - 24/7
here's a few close ups
Main cluster
Title & a bit of journaling
Here is a bit of a close up of the stitched hexagons
And again...more stitching.
If you're not into using mixed media on your pages, but love using stencils,
this is a great way of putting them to good use!
My next layout shows another way of getting the most out of your stencils/templates
"Love is"
Again, I've used hexagons as my example. I first worked out where I wanted my background work and then traced around the edges my CW 12x12 Honeycomb template using a journalling pen. Once that was done, I used my CW 6x6 hexagon template to trace & cut out some hexagons from a variety of patterned papers. I then inked & distressed the edges before adhering them to the centre of the hexagons in the Honeycomb pattern that I had previously traced.
Again, any shaped stencil would work nicely for this technique.
Papers for this one is a variety of Basic Grey, Kaisercraft, Echo Park, My Minds Eye, Jillibean Soup, October Afternoon, Crate paper, Fancy Pants & Lemon Owl
Wow, I don't think I've ever used such a variety of different brand papers on one page before!
Main cluster of Manor House flowers, 2Crafty chipboard & a few buttons & a flair.
From another angle
Title
A little bit of journaling...with more added to the back of the layout, about my love/obsession for Ireland
Here is a close up of the hexagon background
And again.
This is a REALLY easy way of creating a unique background.
And an overall view of the main area of the page.
So that has my 2nd article done & dusted :)
I hope you enjoyed the article in the magazine & you've been inspired to create some
backgrounds using these techniques.
Until next time...Happy Scrapping! xx
Two stunning pages. I love your "different" template work. It looks awesome. I will just have to give this technique a go.
ReplyDeleteI must say, I STILL get a thrill when I see that front cover:):) And this was a super article...even if it was rushed...the one in this months, on the layering tech's? That's my fave so far....it will be great when you can share that one as well...I actually did the layering UP idea...had never thought of it that way....anyways, just to let you know some peeps DO read & take notice of what you write:):) And you do a great job!!!
