New Sketchabilities reveal....

Hi everyone....just popping in for a very quick post tonight to share my layout for the latest Sketchabilities reveal.

Sketch #72 is now live on the Sketchabilities blog...and again it is another fabulous sketch created by Karan Gerber!  I just LOVE Karan's sketches, they are always so different and I find that they are always so easy to work with :)

Here is the latest sketch....

And here is what I have created....

Using a mixture of MME papers, some Lil' Red Rocket goodness, handmade diecut flowers & a few other goodies from my stash.

..

Pics are from our visit to the gorgeous little town, Yackandandah in NE Victoria last year, which was one of my favourite towns on our week long trip.  I loved its old world charm & quaint little shops...not to mention the fabulous little cafe called "Sticky Tarts Cafe", where we had morning tea & then came back again for lunch because it was sooo good!

I hope you have been inspired to give the sketch a go!  If you're after more inspiration, head on over to the Sketchabilities blog to see the rest of the DT's interpretation of the sketch.

If you give the sketch a go, don't forget to upload your layout to the linky tool, by the date shown, at the bottom of Sketch #72 reveal blog post.

Okie doke...that is all from me tonight, it's time to hit the sack!
Thanks so much for dropping by!  xxx

C'est Magnifique May sketch...

Yep, I'm back again so soon!

I thought I'd better blog about this layout I created over the weekend for the May sketch challenge at C'est Magnifique....before the week gets away from me & I forget to get it done before the deadline in a few days(Like I have before!  lol)

So, anyways....here is the gorgeous sketch for May, created by Nadia Cannizzo

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

And this is what I've created....

Please excuse the not so good pic....the weather has been rather miserable here over the last few days, so it's been a bit difficult trying to get a decent pic, but I will try to get a better one & replace it as soon as I can :)

I've used Bo Bunny Double Dot Vintage paper for my background...with some masking using Crafters Workshop 6x6 Mini Bricks template & a mixture of different mists that I mixed together & watered down....then painted on using the template.  I seen this idea (of the mists watered down & painted on - but she didn't use a template on her little demo) on Natalie Elphinstone's blog & thought it would be perfect for using with templates, rather than spraying the mist, for when you want a bit more control on which parts of the template you want to use (hope that makes sense!)  Plus I've then randomly stamped here & there with a Kaisercraft script stamp for a bit more added interest & depth to the background.

In my cluster I've added one of the GORGEOUS Lil' Red Rocket Taupe chiffon flowers....these have a generous 7 layers of chiffon petals, finished off with a pearl bead sewn in the centre.  These chiffon flowers also come in other colours, so head on over to the Lil' Red Rocket store to check them out! You won't be disappointed :)  Plus a Lil' Red Rocket vintage tag.

I've had this chipboard tree in my stash for so long, that I don't even remember what brand it is....but I think it may be Dusty Attic....but whatever it is...I love it on this layout!  I've simply inked it with brown ink & then dabbed & rubbed a bit of gesso here & there for a bit more effect.

Sorry about the bad pic again on this one!  A bit of a closeup of the template/ink work.

Pic is of the beautiful old bridge in Richmond, Tasmania...built by convicts in 1825.  I just LOVE old stuff like this & could spend all day taking thousands of photos of it, if time permitted.  The whole little town of Richmond is such a wonderful place that is just bursting with old heritage buildings & charm.  I really loved visiting there when we were in Tassie back in Feb/March....and would have loved to be able to spend a week or so there, instead of just the day.....oh well, there's always next time!

Well, that's it for me for now...thanks for visiting my blog & for any comments you leave - they really are greatly appreciated :)

One last Jenni Bowlin layout....

Hey there fellow blogger friends....I'm back to share one more layout using my May DT kit from Handmade by Suzanne....Jenni Bowlin Magpie range.

The inspiration for this layout came from the readers design challenge over on the Aussie Scrap Source blog - and the design concept/challenge is Rhythm and Repitition.  You could base your layout on your own design or use one of the Pagemaps or Cardmaps sketches that feature repitition.

I went with this sketch....

clip_image001

and turned it on its side....to get this:

I handcut the little hexagons from the "Collect" pp in the Magpie range & then mounted them in both cream & black cardstock....in place of the hearts on the sketch, then stiched across them in red stitching.

I've used another of the cute little kraft tags from the Jenni Bowlin printed tags pack...I just love the size of these cute little tags :)

And I've also used the funky American Crafts DIY thickers again, with the black Spark tinsel sprinkled over the top....these were a lot of fun to play with...and of course, you could use just about anything that you already may have in your stash to decorate the DIY thickers with....glitter, flock, sand...the ideas could be endless!

A close up of the hexagons

Pics are from a few years ago visiting Captain Cook's cottage in Fitzroy Gardens down in Melbourne....meeting Captain Cook - well, his statue....lol

I've really enjoyed scrapping with this Jenni Bowlin range...and must admit that each layout came together alot easier than what I thought they would...and I'm totally chuffed at the amount of layouts I've got from my kit!  So, all in all, this range has been a pleasant surprise & a lot of fun to scrap with.

And just a little reminder about this months sketch challenge over at Handmade by Suzanne....there's still a few days to get your layouts entered.  You have until midnight on 31/5 (this coming Thursday) to upload your entries to the May sketch competition gallery....and there's a $30 store voucher up for grabs just for entering!  So off you go....get scrapping!  lol

Get Creative!

Another new challenge blog I've discovered recently, based in Greece, Get Creative...and their 15th May sketch challenge drew my attention...even though it is rather different to my normal style.  But there's nothing like a bit of a challenge, eh?!   So, I thought I'd give this sketch a go, because I have been feeling for quite a while now that my layouts are starting to all look the same IYKWIM...so I've been slowly trying to learn some new techniques etc so that I can hopefully be able to mix things up a bit & create some different styled layouts.  So, this sketch was a great starting point to put a few of these techniques together & go for something totally different :)

I don't think I've EVER created a layout with a round photo before....so this was the biggest part of the  challenge for this sketch.

But I really LOVE the outcome

Using MME Miss Caroline paper, Dusty Attic chipboard, Maya Road cog..... Prima, Green Tara, Petaloo & Dusty Attic flowers....Lil' Red Rocket button, Crafters Workshop reversed chickenwire template.....mixed with some newly learnt techniques from a class at Miss Arts School.

I used Gesso with the chicken wire template...which adds just that little bit of added texture & stands out a lot more than just white paint.

The Dusty Attic cherry blossom piece was painted & then Tim Holtz Clear Rock Candy crackle paint was added for a distressed crackle effect...and then some Pinecone ink lightly rubbed into the cracks.

The muslin was sprayed with Suede glimmermist & then pulled apart into smaller pieces & tucked in behind the Dusty Attic circle piece with some gesso smudged here & there over the top.

And the Dusty Attic decorative frame was painted in Kaisercraft Spearmint paint with some gesso smudged here & there over the top again, plus lightly inked with Pinecone ink here & there.

Pic was taken at the Strahan Harbour in Tasmania....I had gone for a walk with my camera & came across this old set of train or carriage wheels of some sort just sitting there in the water... & it's obviously been there for quite some time.  I won't tell you how many photos I took of just this alone!  lol.  The results of my 1 hour walk was about 500 photos & discovering lots of Strahan's hidden treasures :)
So there you have it...something rather different from me, which is what I've been aiming for..so I'm pretty happy about that :)

Thanks for dropping by & I hope you all are having a fab weekend...even though the weather is not too nice atm.  xx

Sketchbook 365

Hi everyone....gosh, what a busy week it has been!  Not alot on the scrappy front from me this week, but I'm hoping the next few days will change that ...especially since it's now raining & looks like it's settled in for a few days :)

I'm back to share another layout using my Handmade by Suzanne DT kit for May, featuring the Jenni Bowlin Magpie range, and it's a layout based on the Sketchbook 365 June sketch by Wendy McKee, which looks like this....

And here is what I've come up with....

Jenni Bowlin Magpie papers used are: Collect,  Gather & both sides of Compile...along with some of the alpha stickers from the Hodge Podge sticker sheet.  And again, I've used one of the Jenni Bowlin printed Kraft Pockets with a shipping tag tucked inside it that contains my journaling....this time I've used one of the larger pockets.

Other embellies & paper used from my stash are:  Bazzill cardstock, A Rainbow Splendour pinwheel, A Lil' Something paper flower, Basic Grey brad, fabric buttons, Handmade MFT die felt flower, crochet doily, Crafters Workshop chickenwire template, Tattered Angels glimmermist (burnt red), MME flocked chipboard alphas & a really old piece of Bella chipboard.

Pics are from our trip to Tassie....climbing up what is known as "The Nut" in a little town called Stanley.  I'm not sure if the pictures show just how steep it was....but OMG it was STEEP!!  & you really knew it once you got to the top....I was knackered!  lol

Well, that's all from me for now....thanks so much for dropping by & for all your lovely comments :)
Take care  xxx

Scrap Africa sketch #5

Helloooo again lovely peeps!  I hope everyone has had a great weekend :)
It's Sunday afternoon here, and I have managed to get 2 afternoons of scrapping in - yay!

Yesterday afternoon I scrapped a layout for the Scrap Africa sketch # 5 (I'm not sure how I stumbled across this challenge blog...but I'm sure glad that I did).....and again, I've used my May DT kit from Handmade by Suzanne - Jenni Bowlin Magpie :)

This is the sketch on the Scrap Africa blog.....

And this is my take on it
Mirroring it from left to right.....

I promise that the layout is NOT crooked IRL...lol

Products used from my DT kit are - Jenni Bowlin Magpie patterned papers - NestAcccessory Sheet (reverse side),  Gather & Compile.  Plus I've used the alpha stickers from the Hodge Podge sticker sheet, a Kraft printed pocket & a Kraft printed tag...all from the Jenni Bowlin Accessories, available in the HBS store.

From my stash I have used my new CW template Reverse ChickenwireMFT "by the letters" alpha dies (I love these!!! & just know they will get lots of use!), MFT Fancy Flourish die, some handmade fabric & felt flowers using various MFT rolled flower dies (Loopy bloom & Rolled Rose), a Ruby Rocket crochet flower & a handmade hessian lollipop....as well as a gorgeous Lil' Red Rocket  "Adore" flag :)

Pics are of the gorgeous Clydesdales at Beechworth in Victoria...my journaling is on a shipping tag that is tucked inside the Jenni Bowlin printed kraft envelope :)

Until next time....take care & happy scrappin'!  xx

Creative Scrappers - sketch #206

A big hello again everyone.....I am back again to share some more of my Jenni Bowlin - Magpie DT kit from Handmade by Suzanne using sketch #206 at Creative Scrappers

and the sketch looks like this....

For my layout, I have mirrored the sketch & came up with this....

And call me crazy, if you want (lol).....but I tediously handcut all those chevrons from the Compile PP in the Magpie range :-/   I've also used the Stash piece as my base as well as some pieces cut from Accessory Sheet around my photo, and a printed Kraft tag and stickers from the Hodge Podge sticker sheet.

I've also used the American Crafts DIY Thickers again for this layout...because they are so much fun & look really cool!  As I mentioned in another post, they are so simple to use....it's just a matter of peeling off the backing paper & then the top of the alpha is all sticky ready for the AC tinsel, glitter or microbeads to be sprinkled over the top.  I have used the black Spark Tinsel

Plus I've added a few simple embellies from my stash & have randomly misted the background with GM - Denim Blue & Burnt Red.

Pic is from our cruise back in Oct 2010 (still trying to get thru them all...lol) of the Chief's hut on the island of Lifou....my journaling is on the little JB kraft tag that is tucked in under the photo.

TFL & have a great weekend!!!  xx

Sketchabilities reveal - sketch # 71

Hello there fellow bloggers...... Yep, I'm back again tonight to share my layout for the new reveal up on the Sketchabilities blog for sketch # 71......again created by Karan Gerber

A quick & simple one from me this time....and I kind of reduced the sketch, I guess you could say, for this one.  But you can still see the bones of the sketch in there.....

Using some MME Follow your heart papers & MME Lost & Found 2 diecut...along with a few embellies from my stash.

Pics are of my crazy DH....the title is fairly self explanatory!!!  lol

..

..

If you'd like to give this fab sketch a go....simply upload your layouts to the linky tool at the bottom of the sketch 71 blog post over on the Sketchabilities blog!

Looking forward to seeing your creations :).

Lets capture these sketches mixed with some JB Magpie...

Hello again lovely peeps :)
I'm back again with another share using my May DT kit

This layout was meant to be for sketch #131 over at Lets Capture these Sketches....but silly me didn't get it blogged/linked in time...lol  Life has been just a tad busy!  Oh well, not to worry :)

I've used more of my May DT kit from Handmade by Suzanne....Jenni Bowlin - Mapgie range

This WAS the sketch....

And here is my take on it...

Something rather different from my last layout using this range!

For this layout I've used:  Jenni Bowlin Mapgie - Accessory sheetCompileMini pattern sheetBank Statement diecut; Hodge Podge Stickers;  & printed Kraft tag.

I've also used the new American Crafts DIY Thickers...coated with some AC Black Spark Tinsel!!!
These are so easy & so cool to use!....The thickers have a peel off piece on the top that you simply peel off & then sprinkle your choice of Tinsel, Glitter or Microbeads on top to create your very own glittery sparkly alphas....and they stick so easily and were so much fun!

Here is a close up of the DIY thickers coated with the Spark Tinsel....

.

Don't they look so cute & so groovy???

And some more close ups....

Other products used.... Lil' Red Rocket embellies....the red spotty button <3 & mini calendar....along with a handmade pinwheel, Kaisercraft paperbloom, D'Lish Scraps vintage clock bottletop, CW numbers template, TA Glimmermist & a few buttons.

Pic is of myself & DD being silly while on a recent visit out to Wyangala Dam to see it while it was at 100% capacity....which was a nice change :)

Ok, that's all from me for now....thanks for dropping by & happy scrapping!  xx

Jenni Bowlin - Magpie

This month I received another generous DT kit from Handmade by Suzanne containing the Jenni Bowlin Magpie range, along with some Jenni Bowlin accessories.....thanks Suzanne!

I must admit that I was pleasantly surprised when I received my kit & it didn't take long before I had a few ideas swimming around in my head on how I could get a few different styled layouts using these papers, which I think are going to be very versatile :)

So here is my first layout using the Magpie range....for the May sketch challenge at Once Upon a Sketch, with a theme of MUM - My journaling about my thoughts as a mum is on a shipping tag that is tucked into the JB pocket at the top of my photo.

But first....the sketch!

And my layout....
(I have turned the sketch clockwise on it's side)

Papers: Jenni Bowlin Magpie - both sides of Gather, as well as both sides of the Accessory sheet
Embellishments:  Jenni Bowlin Accessories - Modge Podge stickersKraft printed pocket,   Kraft  printed tag...along with PrimaDusty Attic flowers, Kaisercraft wooden vine flourishPrima resin photo corner, my NEW Martha Stewart Swirling Lace punch around the page punch set, that I couldn't wait to use!!!  lol,  Martha Stewart Doily Lace punch, MFT Button Quartet die,  American Crafts Thickers,  Crafters Workshop Chickenwire template,  Kaisercraft Script stamp.

And yep, I've only just scrapped this photo recently....but I had printed out a few copies, at the time,  using different effects at PicMonkey, and because I hate to waste things, plus the photo fitted the theme at OUAS this month....I thought I might as well scrap it again :)

And now for a few close ups....

..

..

Ok, that's all for now folks....I shall be back some time over the coming days with more to share from my Jenni Bowlin DT kit :)

Thanks for dropping by & happy scrappin'   xx

May sketch @ Handmade by Suzanne....

Hey there everyone,

Yep, it's time for a new monthly sketch at Handmade by Suzanne.

This months sketch is created by the very talented Nadia Cannizzo....and isn't it a fabulous sketch?!?

May 2012 Sketch Competition

And....here is my take on Nadia's sketch....

Using papers from Graphic 45 - ABC Primer ...along with some punched leaves & MFT diecut flourishes, MFT rolled rose felt flowers, Lil' Red Rocket fabric heart button, Charms Creations lollipop, Rainbow Splendour mini pinwheel, D-Lish Scraps vintage bottletop, Dusty Attic chipboard birds, Jenni Bowlin quilted sticker, Kaisercraft Berry Vine, Kaisercraft transparency,  Maya Road chipboard cogs, Prima pebble, handmade hessian lollipop, shipping tags & twine.... & a few paper clips.

A close up of my clusters

And journaling, Kaiser Berry vine & title

Pic is of my DH at around 3 years old....which I think must have been the start of his love for cycling.  He still cycles as often as he can....& wishes that I would get invovled with cycling too....but I really don't think I would handle the 70 & 80+ km rides that he does!  lol

I hope I have inspired you to give this months sketch a go.....
You have until Midnight on 31st May to upload your entries to the May sketch challenge folder in the Handmade by Suzanne Gallery. There is a $30 store voucher up for grabs, that includes free postage! All you need to do is enter....it doesn't matter what your skill level is, as the winner is determined by a random draw!

Also, for all the latest news on what's happening at Handmade by Suzanne...you can check it out in the latest newsletter HERE

Thanks for dropping by & Happy Thursday to everyone!  :)  xxx
